Voice and Speech

Speech is the expression of or the ability to express thoughts and feelings by articulate sounds.   The voice maybe effected by a myofunctional disorder addressing such disorders on resting postures of the orofacial complex is believed to have an improvement on the voice (*referral may be required in some cases). Orofacial Myofunctional disorder (OMD) may result in any of the following:

  • Incorrect position of the tongue agianst the teeth with /t/, /d/, /n/ and /l/,
  • The tongue is in between or agianst the teeth with /s/, /sh/, /z/, /ch/, /j/
  • Alteration in articulation /p/, /b/, /m/
  • Low position of the tongue when producing of /r/ or/w/.
  • Excessive jaw movement or thrusting on the production of /s/, /sh/, /z/, /ch/, /j/, /v/ and/or /f/.

Exercising the voice in all body movements within 360 degree rotation, has been shown to improve the voice quality MyoDynamics works closely with VoiceGym and can individualise therapy programmes for improvement in the quality of the voice.
